Heavy debris
Dumpster for concrete, dirt and brick
A broken-up patio slab, a paver walkway or a pile of fill dirt weighs far more than it looks. These jobs go in the smallest containers, and often only part full.

Why the container is small
Trucks and roads have weight limits. A 10-yard container filled to the top with concrete would be far too heavy to lift. That's why companies send short-walled containers for heavy debris, or mark a fill line partway up the side and ask you to stop there.
Keep it clean
Most companies price a load of only concrete, only brick or block, or only clean dirt differently from mixed debris. Clean loads can be crushed and reused. One bag of trash or a few roots in the load can turn it into mixed debris.
If you're pulling up pavers and the sand bed beneath, ask whether the sand counts as clean fill or needs its own load.
Hauling it yourself instead
Lee County's construction and demolition recycling facility on Buckingham Road sorts out concrete and metal for reuse, and it takes loads from the public through the scale house. For a few pickup loads, self-hauling may make sense.
Cape Coral's bulk drop-off site on Kismet Parkway does not take concrete, block, dirt or rock.

Heavy debris questions
Can I put concrete and dirt in the same container?
Ask first. Some companies allow concrete and dirt together as long as nothing else is mixed in. Others want them separate.
How do I break up a slab that big?
A rented jackhammer or demolition hammer, or a concrete contractor. Pieces need to be small enough to lift into the container by hand or with a wheelbarrow ramp.
