Estate cleanouts
Dumpster for an estate cleanout
Clearing a family member's home is slow, personal work. There's no need to rush it. A container just gives you one place for the things nobody is keeping.
Phone hours: Monday–Saturday 8 a.m.–8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.–1 p.m., Eastern time

Before anything is thrown away
Go through the home once with the family, or whoever is handling the estate, before the container arrives. Look for these and set them in one safe room:
- Wills, deeds, titles, insurance papers and tax records
- Bank statements, checkbooks and anything with account numbers
- Photos, letters and keepsakes, even ones nobody wants yet
- Keys, safe combinations and passwords written down
- Jewelry, cash and coins, often tucked in drawers or closets
Lee County doesn't shred documents. Papers with personal details are worth taking to a private shredding business rather than the container.
Rent longer than you think
An estate rarely clears in a weekend. A week or two is common, especially when relatives come in from out of town. Ask what the standard rental period is and what each extra day adds, so a slow week doesn't become a surprise.
If the house will be listed, ask the realtor whether a container in the driveway is fine during showings.
The things a dumpster can't take
Older homes often have garage shelves of pool chemicals, paint and pesticides. Those go to the county's Topaz Court facility. A refrigerator or freezer goes out by appliance pickup: tape the doors shut or remove them first. The full list is in the what can’t go in a dumpster guide.
If you're doing this from far away
Some families handle a Florida estate from another state. Booking by phone works the same way. Say who will be at the house for drop-off, or whether the container can be left in the driveway with nobody home.

Tell the company what you're throwing out, which spot on the property you have in mind and how many days you need it. Booking is up to you.
