Whose road is it?
The Town of Fort Myers Beach maintains the side streets. Lee County maintains Estero Boulevard. If a container can't fit on your lot and has to sit on a side street, ask the Town first: right-of-way permits go through rowpermits@fmbgov.com or 239-765-0202. Anything touching Estero Boulevard is a county question.
Most companies would rather place a container on your property anyway. Say on the call if parking under the house is the only space.
Under a raised house
If your home sits on pilings, measure the clearance under the floor before you suggest the container go there. A roll-off truck lifts the front of its bed to slide the container off, and it needs open sky above it to do that.
A smaller container often solves it. A 10 or 15-yard roll-off is shorter and easier to set in a narrow space.
Thursday is pickup day
Island trash, recycling and yard waste all go out on Thursday. Appliances and large items need a special pickup scheduled with Waste Management at 239-334-1224, and bulky items can't go to the curb earlier than the day before.
That works for a sofa or two. A full remodel or a flooring job is more than special pickups are set up for.
Chemicals on the island
The Town holds a hazardous waste collection day on the island every quarter with Lee County. Between those, paint, pool chemicals and batteries go to the county's Topaz Court facility off Metro Parkway.
