Remodel debris
Dumpster for a kitchen or bathroom remodel
Tearing out a kitchen or a bathroom means cabinets, countertops, drywall and a surprising amount of tile. The tile and any mortar bed under it are what push a load toward its weight limit.

Kitchen or bath: how they differ
Kitchen
Upper and lower cabinets are bulky but light. A full kitchen with a tile backsplash and an old laminate or stone top usually fits a 15 or 20-yard container. Granite and quartz are dense, so tell the company if the counters are stone.
Bathroom
One bathroom is small in volume but heavy per square foot: tile walls, a tub, a vanity and sometimes a mortar shower pan. A 10-yard container often covers one bath. Two baths done together may need a 15.
Keep the receipt from the dump
If your remodel runs under a City of Fort Myers building permit, the debris affidavit puts the permit holder in charge of disposal records, and the city randomly asks for receipts. Ask the rental company for the disposal ticket when it hauls the container away.
Mixed construction debris from inside the city also has to go to a construction and demolition recycling facility in Lee County. A local company that works in the city will know where it takes loads.

Old appliances and the water heater
Most roll-off companies won't take a refrigerator or anything else that holds refrigerant. Inside Fort Myers, white goods go out with the weekly city collection. In unincorporated Lee County, a large appliance set at the curb gets tagged and picked up within three business days.
A tank water heater, a dishwasher and a range are worth asking about on the call. Some companies take them for an added charge and some don't.
Remodel questions
Can the contractor and I share one container?
Yes, as long as one person books it and you agree who loads what. If your remodeler already includes debris removal in the contract, you may not need your own.
Does drywall dust or plaster need bagging?
Loose dust blows out of an open container. Bag fine debris and sweepings before they go in.
